Middle East‭

Trilingual Typeface

Middle East is a trilingual typeface that admits to being a non-native speaking typeface showcasing three different languages (Arabic, Hebrew, and English).  It is a conservative yet cheeky, almost "not-legit" typeface that goes against common perceptions on typefaces. The typeface originated as I was designing a logo for an employment fair intended for people with disabilities. I created a logotype that at first sight may seem chaotic, but a closer look reveals an order that stems from the disorderly. I expanded the typeface’s letterforms, and the result was both unusual as well as enticing, graceful and unique, just like the newly-weds. Later, as I decided to turn Middle East in a multilingual, multi-weight typeface, I developed an Arabic version in a neo-naskh style. In the Latin version, I aimed to create a geometric Sans-Serif  grotesque typeface, minus the “perfected” feel. Although all three languages contain similar characteristics, each one has its own unique identity.
