A Typeface Inspired by Kara Walker
Kara Walker, the highly acclaimed American artist known for her work addressing issues of racism, identity, and history is primarily famous for her silhouette technique, which combines painting, disclosure, and exposure against a black or white background using figures and images from American history.
This typeface is a superfamily and includes two versions: a serif intended for display sizes from 24 pt to 200 pt and a sans-serif designed for text sizes from 7 to 14 pt. Like Walker’s seemingly innocent illustrations that depict dark and harrowing themes, this typeface blends softness and roundness with sharpness and violence. It is a legend that begins with “once
upon a time,” yet never ends with “happily ever after.”
