Tzavta Theater Tel-Aviv‭

‬Variable Font

Tzavta is one of Israel’s most renowned theaters, which resides in Tel Aviv.
The theater’s logo was designed in the 1950s and became its trademark. Since its creation,
the logo appeared in Tzavta’s publications and on its website, alongside body texts that were designed in different typefaces. This led to a somewhat forced and inconsistent conjunction between modern Sans Serif typefaces and the old logo, and it was apparent to me that to make a change, I need to start the process top-down. I created a new logo and later developed an entire typeface based on it. The old logo dictated static, square-shaped formations. To make it more dynamic, I slightly changed some the letterforms to break the symmetry and its straight lines, and in the case of several letters, I designed different options to enable a variety of connections between the letters. At the end of the process, I assembled a variable typeface that responds to the needs of different publications’ designs.
