UrbDIC

Translation Contrast Typeface‭ (‬Type@Cooper‭)‬

What if UrbanDictionary.com was an actual printed dictionary? The goal of my final project at the extended study program at Type@Cooper was to create a typeface for the Urban Dictionary. UrbDic is a translation contrast serif typeface, intended for dictionaries and other tiny text formats. It has an overall low contrast, and short ascenders and descenders, which allows it to fit more text on the page. It also has a variety of weights and styles. UrbDic is both traditional and contemporary, with sharp edges, as if it is drawn with a Sharpie, but also has a classic touch about it. It is good for small text sizes (7-9 pt) but also works great in titles (20-24 pt). It is perfectly suitable for use in magazines, fanzines, posters, and other formats.
